Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct (Click HERE For a Printable Version)

The Weyburn Soccer Association is directed by the highest standard of good conduct, fair and equal treatment, good sportsmanship and no harassment of players, coaches, supervisors, executive members, officials and spectators. Therefore participation in any and all activities demands a high standard of conduct in that it reflects back on you, your team and the soccer association.

For this reason, all participants on any representative (traveling) team are required to sign a declaration stating that they will agree to abide by the Weyburn Soccer Association Code of Conduct.

Any conduct, acts, practices or circumstances deemed inappropriate by coaches, supervisors, executive members, chaperones, or any other person placed in a position of authority will be reviewed and treated seriously in accordance with the Weyburn Soccer Association Discipline policies.

CODE OF CONDUCT

The Code of Conduct identifies the standard of behavior, which is required of all participants while practicing, traveling to, participating in and returning from all Weyburn Soccer Association activities.

ALL PARTICIPANTS shall:

  1. Represent the Weyburn Soccer Association, the game of soccer, and our community as goodwill ambassadors, with dignity, personal integrity and within the spirit of fair play at all times both in and out of the game.

  2. Show respect for:

    1. The members of your team and group.

    2. The members of all opponent teams.

    3. The rules and standards set down by the Weyburn Soccer Association.

    4. Decisions made by officials.

    5. The people of any host association or community including players, coaches, volunteers,

officials, spectators, local business people, etc.

  3. Abide by the accommodation/travel policy set out by the coaches and team managers in regards to rooming and curfews.

  4. Not consume alcohol or illegal drug substances. Know that no tobacco, alcohol or illegal drug substances may be present or consumed in any venues, accommodations or vehicles used by the Weyburn Soccer Association teams.

  5. Set a positive example for compliance with all policies, rules and standards of conduct.

  6. Act in the best interest of all participants, avoiding all unsafe and unacceptable circumstances, and seek the advice of appropriate medical personnel if conditions warrant it.

  7. Refrain from any type of unauthorized initiation onto a team.

  8. Know that the supervision of Weyburn Soccer Association players will be the responsibility of the assigned person(s).

ALL PARENTS and GUARDIANS shall:

  1. Represent the Weyburn Soccer Association, the game of soccer, and our community as ambassadors, with dignity, personal integrity and within the spirit of fair play at all times.

  2. Show respect for:

    1. My child, by only giving positive comments that motivate and encourage a continued effort,

and never ridicule a mistake during a game.

    2. The opponents, because without them there would be no game.

    3. The officials’ decisions and encourage participants to do the same, and never question their

      judgment or honesty in public.

    4. The volunteer coaches who give their time to coach soccer for my child.

  3. Remember that my child plays soccer for his or her enjoyment, not mine.

  4. Encourage my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.

  1. Teach my child that doing one’s best is as important as winning, so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game. I will make my child feel like a winner every time by offering praise for competing fairly and trying hard.

  2. Remember that children learn best by example. I will applaud good plays and performances by both my child’s team and their opponents.

  3. I will not use bad language, nor will I harass players, coaches, officials or other spectators.

DISCIPLINE POLICY/PROCEDURES

  1. Any and all violations of the Code of Conduct will be immediately brought to the attention of and dealt with by, the appropriate supervisor. Written or verbal notification of the discipline decision will be provided to the offender.

  2. Discipline may include, but not necessarily inclusive or in this order the following:

    1. 1)  A verbal reprimand.

    2. 2)  Removal from the present game/activity for a short period of time.

    3. 3)  Removal from the game/activity for the day/weekend and possibly sent home.

    4. 4)  Removal from the team for a period of time ranging up to the balance of the

      season.

  1. Individuals responsible for willful damage will make full restitution.

  2. In any situation involving a participant being disciplined beyond a verbal reprimand, a communication will be made to the parent(s) or guardian(s).

APPEALS PROCESS

Participants may appeal the decision to the Discipline Committee consisting of the Association President, the coach of an unrelated traveling team, and the head of an unrelated division. One of the following two situations must apply for an appeal to occur:

  1. 1)  Action of the supervisor was not appropriate.

  2. 2)  New or additional information has come to light.

A written appeal must be submitted to the Association President within 48 hours of the decision or within 48 hours of returning to Weyburn from travel. The Discipline Committee will meet within 48 hours of the appeal. The Discipline Committee has the right to gather the information necessary to make a decision, which may include a hearing. A majority vote will rule in the decision. The Discipline Committee’s decision will be final.
